Crediting her family as her inspiration, Margaret’s secret to living life to the fullest is absolutely, undoubtedly, “Happiness and family”. She also claims she never drank, smoked, gambled or went out with bad men, sounds like a very sensible approach to life indeed. Her favourite inspirational quotes on life include, “Where there is a will, there is a way” and “Will in you, you can do”.

An incredibly keen, and skilled seamstress, Margaret told me of her love of sewing and proudly boasted that her most memorable moment was being crowned as the State CWA winner for a baby’s dress that she had lovingly sewn. Margaret’s sight has got to a point now where she can no longer sew however being the amazing, kind and giving woman she is, she was in the process of knitting a baby’s rug for a charity.

Margaret expressed the love she had for her husband, the man that was her best friend & soul mate. Unfortunately, he passed almost 18 years ago & Margaret told me it was the saddest day of her life and that living without him has been the hardest thing she has had to do without.

Margaret remembers her childhood as the best years in Australia and told me that it saddens her as the youth of today seem to have little interest now other than ‘playing’ and ‘mucking up’. She went on to say, “The 50’s, 60’s & 70’s were definitely the best years in this country. I fear for my great grandchildren and the world they are growing up in”. I asked Margaret what she would change if she had her life over again to which she replied, “The World…. more LOVE, HAPPINESS! I hate all these shootings, the terrorism, even the movies, it is not decent-it is all too sad!”.

A beautiful, gentle soul, the kind of grandma you would all want.
