A little more about Benny May. Featured in Outback Magazine 2017

Benny May lives in the sleepy fishing town of Cardwell in Far North Queensland where he still casts this net daily looking for a catch. Sometimes he does get prawns or fish, but regardless this practise keeps him wiry fit and so I don't wonder how he's managed to avoid crocodiles while fishing along this parade which overlooks protected Hinchinbrook Island and is known for its sightings of Bismarck, the five metre (and some) croc that patrols the beach. Benny is a true larrikin of the Far North, boasting of the concreting accident which took the sight from one eye in 1968, and his 'big ears' which he claims were the result of an over zealous doctor at his birth. But he is also your average father and grandfather, with three sons and five grandchildren, living still in his neat 'Queenslander'. I feel a real connection to the people of Far North Queensland, like Benny May. My annual trip North to visit with my mother who lives there now has opened my eyes to the absolute diversity this country holds and I'm just itching to get out there at every opportunity, to capture more of it!
